In math we are beginning a unit in which we will focus on measurement, telling time, and identifying and using coins. You can support this unit at home by pointing out how we use these skills in everyday life, and giving your child a chance to practice skills such as measuring in inches, comparing a digital and analog clock, and identifying and adding coins.
Coming home today is a social studies homework project for you to work on with your child for the next few weeks. We are learning about timelines in class. This will be an opportunity for your child to create a timeline of his/her own life. The materials and directions are coming home in a Ziploc bag. Your child may use photographs or drawings. Feel free to help your child with the writing portions of the project. When your child has completed their timeline, have them bring it back to share with the class.
This week we began our new word study activity: Word Sorts. We will be working with a set of words for the week, looking for patterns, and practicing the words in a variety of ways. This will help the kids familiarize themselves with word patterns for both reading and writing accuracy. In a few weeks, after we have learned the Word Sort routine at school, I will send home copies of the words for at home practice as well.
We are beginning to run out of snack, and will be needing more soon. Thanks!
