We have had a wonderful and busy week, topped by a beautiful day at the farm yesterday. Our thanks to all of the parents and farmers who made it possible. We dug, counted, weighed, sorted. In the end, we harvested well over 300 potatoes. In addition to the individual potatoes we each brought home, we brought some back for a class cooking project. Even with all of our wandering through the forests of Islandwood, the kids had energy for Free Time with Mr. Rothbaum. Their stamina is amazing!
Our brassica has started growing, and the children have been so excited to watch and record what they see. We also wrote persuasive stories in which we pretended to be a pumpkin in a patch, trying to convince children to either choose us or NOT choose us to take home.

We have added a new component to our Daily 5 Literacy- Read to a Partner. The children have become very skilled at quietly finding a partner and sitting EEKK (elbow to elbow and knee to knee) in order to share a book and read quietly. We also started reading to parents this week, with great success. The students have enjoyed having so many more opportunities to read to others.
Coming up next week, we will be finishing our pumpkin writing, learning the double e sound in reading, practicing doubles facts in math, and planting a few more seeds for observation. We will also be reading and writing about animals, and gearing up for our trip to the zoo on Thursday.
We will be enjoying a Halloween parade and celebration Monday the 31st beginning at 12:30. Your child may bring in a costume, and we will change into the costumes and be ready for the parade, which starts at 1:00. If your child’s costume has a weapon component, please have them leave that at home. Our wonderful room parents are doing some planning, and may contact you for items or assistance.
